About me

A woman with short curly hair and glasses smiling at an art gallery. She is wearing a black T-shirt with a colorful Earth design and the text "The Earth Without Art Is Just Eh!" She is dressed in a black blazer and brown pants. There are abstract paintings on the wall behind her.
Hello!

My work is shaped by a constant movement between places—between Caribbean warmth and Nordic stillness, between memory and the present moment. I paint from that in-between space, where things are not fully defined but deeply felt. Sometimes I am torn between my Trinidadian culture and my Swedish lifestyle, while embracing them at the same time.

I work intuitively, building layers of acrylic and mixed media over time. Each painting evolves through a process of adding, removing, and rediscovering, allowing forms to appear and dissolve naturally. I’m less interested in capturing a specific place, and more drawn to creating atmospheres that feel familiar—like something remembered rather than seen.

Nature often appears in my work, but not in a literal way. Flowers, water, and landscapes become fragments—carriers of emotion, memory, and quiet reflection. There is often a balance between movement and stillness, chaos and calm, as I try to hold both at once.

Ultimately, I want the work to offer a space to pause. A place where the viewer can slow down, breathe, and connect with something personal—something that doesn’t need to be explained, only felt.

There is only joy in my heart when I paint, it is my happy place 😊

“This piece was captivating with a touch of whimsy. Alicia/The artist primarily used colour to express geographical context and emotional connection and then topped it off by seemingly giving a hint of the tribute to the land of her birth in the form of a camouflaged hummingbird amidst the abstract brush strokes.”
